Charles W. (Charlie) Fletcher, Jr.

Brigadier General Charles W. Fletcher, Jr. assumed duties as the Commander, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command on 24 Aug 04.

BG Fletcher is a resident of Centerville, Michigan. He enlisted in the Army in 1967. He received an appointment to West Point and was commissioned in 1972. He served in a variety of Transportation, Aviation and Multifunctional Logistics assignments.

His commands include Aviation Companies in the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii and 2nd Infantry Division in Korea, 702d Transportation Battalion in Southwest Asia, 28th Transportation Battalion in Germany, 8th Transportation Brigade at Fort Eustis, Virginia, and Commanding General 3d Corps Support Command with duties in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His staff assignments include positions with the Office of the Army Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Army Materiel Comand, 21st Theater Army Area Command, and U.S. Army Transportation School. His aviation assignments include advisor duty with an Imperial Iranian Army Aviation Battalion during the Islamic Revolution. His recent assignment was Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, Department of the Army, from 2 Sep 03-24 Aug 04.

His joint assignments include command of the Joint Mobility Operations Center, USTRANSCOM, during operational deployments in support of CENTCOM (Desert Fox,) Kosovo (Noble Anvil and Task Force Hawk,) Hurricane Mitch disaster relief and African Embassies' bombing investigation/relief.

BG Fletcher's awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asian Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Saudi Arabian Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Imperial Iranian Aviator Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
