Michael WilliamsMr. Michael K. Williams, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is deputy to the commander, Military Surface Deployment and Distri­bution Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Mr. Williams is responsible for facilitating continuous improvement and innovation in the development of distribution policies, plans, and programs sup­porting the global mission. These responsibilities impact Joint Service force deployment and logis­tics operations.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Williams served as director, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency and United States Transportation Command Joint Distribution Process Analysis Center, Scott AFB, Ill. from Oct. 2007 – Nov. 2009. He served as acting director, SDDC-TEA (April – Oct. 2007); chief of the Deployability Division (March 1997 – March 2007) and chief of the Engineering and Simulation Technology Branch, SDDC-TEA, at Newport News, Va. (Oct. 1993 – Feb. 1997).

Mr. Williams’ education includes a Master of Science in national security strategy from the National War College, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. (2001) and a Bachelor of Science in general engineering from the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., (1983). He has also completed specialized training in Leadership for a Democratic Society from the Federal Executive Institute, and the Department of Defense Executive Leadership Develop­ment Program, 1992.

His awards and honors include the Army Superior Civilian Service Award, Command­er’s Award for Civilian Service, and the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service.

Mr. Mark Averill
Director, Force Projection and Distribution, Army G-4

Mr. Mark AverillMr. Averill currently serves as the Senior Executive Service Director of Force Projection and Distribution, United States Army, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4.

He was commissioned into the Army as a Transportation Corps Officer upon his graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1982. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in National Security and Public Affairs and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Marine Corps University.
His military education includes the Transportation Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, The U.S. Navy Shiploading and Ocean Terminal Operations Course, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Marine Corps Advanced Military Studies Program, the Army Force Management Course and the Marine Corps War College.

BG(R) Barbara Doornink
Senior Vice President and Operations Manager

BG(R) Barbara DoorninkBarbara Doornink joined Science Applications International Corporation in September of 2005, and currently serves as an Operations Manager for the Joint Integrated Logistics & Transportation Solutions Operation.  Her organization’s focus is operational logistics, logistics information technology, and transportation engineering solutions. Current Programs include the Joint Logistics Integrator for MRAP and DLA’s Asset Visibility Sustainment   

BG(R) Doornink’s Army career spanned a variety of command, logistics leadership and staff positions across all echelons.  Her last assignment was as the deputy commanding general and director of operations for Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, where she directed surface deployments of U.S. Forces to Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as their surface sustainment support.  She was inducted into the DLA Hall of Fame in 2007 for her major contributions as the CG of the Defense Distribution Center.

Barbara Doornink received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Washington State University, a Masters of Science from the University of Southern California in Information Systems Management and a Masters of Science from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in National Resource Management.


Mr. Bill Kenwell

Mr. Bill KenwellWilliam Kenwell was named Senior Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer at Maersk Line, Limited, on September 1, 2006.

Mr. Kenwell joined Maersk Inc. in February 2004 as the Director of Integrated Marketing and has extensive sales, marketing and general management background in the transportation and
logistics industry. For 29 years, from 1971-1999, he was with Sea-Land Service in the United States and Asia. During his career at Sea-Land, he was in charge of Global Sales, Corporate
Marketing, Pacific Rim Sales and Marketing, the Hawaii-Guam Service, Buyers Consolidators and Sea-Land Logistics.

He also served with CSX Transportation, where he was Vice President of Sales for North
America from 2001-2003, and where he managed CSX’s international offices in Europe,
Mexico and Latin America, as well as the logistics services company Transflo. Prior to this, Mr.
Kenwell was Vice President of Partner Relations for GT Nexus, a leading logistics software
solutions provider.

Mr. Kenwell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University, and completed the
Executive Marketing Program at the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College. He is a life
member of the National Defense Transportation Association.


Ms. Lisa Roberts
Acting, Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Transportation Policy

Ms. Lisa RobertsLisa Roberts is the Acting, Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.  She is responsible for the development of policies in support of DoD strategic distribution, traffic management, and transportation systems.

Prior to assuming her current position, Ms. Roberts served on the Headquarters, U.S. Army staff from 1995 to 2000.  She was a Deputy Project Manager for the Deputy Secretary of Defense initiative to reengineer personal property processes.  From 1992 to 1995, Ms. Roberts was a traffic management specialist assigned to the U.S. Army in Germany where she managed the Army’s program to consolidate numerous transportation offices into one.  She also served as the lead logistics coordinator and implemented an operational plan to close the Frankfurt Area Support Group and to relocate Headquarters V Corps. 

Ms. Roberts earned a Master’s Degree in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation/Logistics and Marketing from The Ohio State University.  She is the recipient of the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service and Government Executive’s Travel Manager of the Year Award.
